Pearl Garden at 14508 14th Ave in Flushing offers a no-frills, takeout-focused experience rooted in Taiwanese home-style cooking. Unlike your typical dine-in Chinese spots around the city, this place caters mostly to those grabbing a satisfying meal to go, drawn by generous portions and authentic flavors that echo the Taiwanese street food vibe.

Walking in, you won’t find tables or a sit-down dining area — it feels much like a neighborhood bento and lunchbox stop, busy with locals and Mandarin speakers who come for comforting plates that remind them of home. The counter setup is simple; behind it, the same person often takes your order and prepares your food, lending a personable touch to the otherwise quick-service style.

The menu leans heavily on classic Taiwanese favorites like beef noodle soup with braised beef that breaks apart easily, and rice platters featuring crispy chicken cutlets, eel, or the intriguingly named “Sea Land and Air over Rice.” Portions are hearty enough to be shared or enjoyed sitting on a nearby park bench or bringing back home. Flavor profiles tend to balance rich and subtle, with soups that speak for themselves without overly heavy seasoning—expect to add your own soy, chili, or vinegar to tune it to your taste.

This spot fits perfectly for anyone craving authentic Taiwanese bentos and noodle dishes without the fuss of a formal sit-down meal. It’s especially handy for locals who want a filling, unpretentious lunch or dinner on the go. Weekday lunch rushes can be lively as workers and students pick up pots of homemade-style meals, while early evening sees families stocking up on comfort food to bring home.

Ultimately, Pearl Garden’s atmosphere is defined by its straightforward, dependable takeout approach and the sense of local routine it carries. It’s a place where the food quality and portion size speak louder than decor or table service, rooted firmly in the Flushing Taiwanese culinary niche.

This is a not so typical Asian takeout place. They have Taiwanese ???????? food. Pork chop over rice is good and beef over rice falls apart in your mouth

Trying this take-out for the first time and very good bento box meals. I ordered the Eel, Chicken Leg and Pork Chop, Shredded Dried Bean Curd & Pork over rice and the Taiwanese Fried Rice Cake. All very tasty and large potions! They really took their time to make the bento looks nice...even when it is just a takeout order!

I got the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. The braised beef is AMAZING. Best braised beef I've ever had. The portion was huge. I looked like a friggin animal eating it at a park bench. The veggies were blanched perfectly. The noodles were cooked perfectly but I still would have preferred fresh noodles. One thing to note: the broth has tons of flavor but is intentionally underseasoned. Be sure to get soy sauce and chili packs to add some needed salt and heat. ----- Update 11/1: Ordered the black bean noodles. Was expecting a Taiwanese version of jajangmyeon (which I love) but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only does the dish come with a bunch of minced pork, it also comes with your choice of roast chicken or roasted pork. I got the chicken and, OMG, it was a huge roasted chicken leg. Perfectly seasoned, roasted and glazed. Skin was crispy and meat was juicy. The black bean sauce itself was great. Unlike jajangmyeon, there wasn't too much of the sauce, just enough to coat the noodles. It was so flavorful and well seasoned, no additional sauces were needed.

I was wrong about this place. I was used to the deep fried pork chop over rice dish and they do it a little different but I tried today some black bean noodles with a grilled chicken leg and a fish fillet over rice platter, and - this meal was so good it made me a little upset it was a weird experience. For the price the amount of food I got and how well it was cooked, this place serves food that belongs in a fancy sit down restaurant.

It looks much like a typical Chinese to-go restaurant like those you see in many parts of the USA. No tables. No chairs. What's different is that they're Taiwanese. Plus I see plenty of folks who show up here and who speak Chinese, which means they vote for the authenticity of the food made here. The lady who was behind the counter also cooks. She gave me something extra. I put everything in our fridge when I got home, and I plan to take my time enjoying them. The beef noodle, which I had, was good. So far.

We’ve been ordering from here for several years. Expect a bit of a wait for takeout, but the food quality has been very consistent, the portions are generous, and the owner is very friendly. One of the few places left that serves authentic Taiwanese food.

I ordered the pork chop bento and Taiwanese style rice noodle. The pork chop was so tasty and the sausage was juicy and full of flavor, reminded me of the night markets in Taiwan. However, the vegetables served were over cooked and sad looking, and the rice was clumpy and mushy. The rice noodle had three large shrimps and overall had a great authentic taste but it was on the colder side. I ordered ahead for pickup and arrived within fifteen minutes of my phoned order. I think they just make a big batch of everything and package it up and when you come and pick up they just give you what you ordered. This can explain the cold noodles. I tried both the savory and sweet soups. Savory one tasted like a pork bone broth with seaweed, ginger and fish balls. The sweet one is like red bean soup with grass jelly, sago, taro and whatever is left over in it. I enjoyed both soups, flavors were very Taiwanese. One of the better options for Taiwanese food in Queens.

The food is large portion for sure. The taste of the food is above average. I cant say it is authentic taiwan food but it is pretty good in flavor. Some of the meat is little dry in general. The rice is soft and the sauce is perfect match with the rice
